Useful Technologies
In my VPK classroom I will be incorporating traditional as well as cutting-edge technology. Both of these types of technologies will serve a different purpose in how the kids learn. Some examples of traditional technologies include white boards and projectors. The main purpose of the whiteboard is for kids to see the days of the week and the assignments of the day. The white board will also be used for drawing shapes and interacting with the students, measuring their abilities of copying shapes and their understandings of the material being discussed. This would be used during circle time when I have their undivided attention. The projector is another form of traditional technology I would incorporate in the classroom in the beginning and end of class time to show the students their work and homework. This would help the students by allowing me to show the students what they would be expecting, how to do some with them and allow time for questions.
Some cutting-edge technology I would be using include computer time and YouTube for virtual fieldtrips which will help engage the students in the topic of the week. Computer time is meant for allowing students to catch up on homework if needed, play educational games as a reward for excellent behavior or excellent performance on assignments, and as a behavior tactic to release some energy and help them focus on lessons. To back off of this, virtual fieldtrips will be used to help explain the topic of the week and allow the students to see and experience different parts of the world including culture, geography, religion, and customs of different countries. For example, we can put on a virtual fieldtrip to Venezuela and see their foods, dances, parties, traditions and more. Another example is the ocean, with the view of the ocean the students will be able to learn about different sea animals which can lead to questions including: what animal is this, what do they sound like, what do they eat, has anyone seen one of these animals before, etc.
