Universal Design Learning

1. When the teachers are making goals for the students using the principles of UDL, teachers need to keep in mind of the diversity in their classrooms. Not every student learns the same and will have different talents, interests, and abilities. The lesson plans should provide multiple ways of representing the lesson, expressing the lesson, and engaging in the lesson. Our students come from all different backgrounds we need to set up the classrooms for diversity.

2. The way I will present the unit on plants to my 2nd grade students is asking my students "Hey my friends, what do we know about plants?" My students will provide their responses, which sparks up their interest into learning more about plants. After this, we will transition into the PowerPoint identifying key points from the textbook. There will also be options during the PowerPoint discussion like digital text based off of the videos in the slideshow, open captions in the videos, handouts on key points of what was discussed in class, providing notebook organizers, Venn diagrams comparing and contrasting plants vs animals, for tactical and kinesthetic learners I will also provide a felt flannel board to use the felt pieces to present different facts about plants and animals and divide into three categories: Plants, Animals, and Both. PowerPoint will be provided with pictures and videos about how plants and animals are alike and different. This will be represented into a class discussion and then be separated into groups according to level of difficulty. After a week of discussing the difference and similarities  about plants and animals, I will give different options of assessment. I will provide a paper test with a scantron, an online test with and without audio, doing a project with a project board,  by making a video, creating a sensory box, writing an essay, and more.. To remain in their engagement in the subject of plant and animal differences and similarities I will plan various activities ranging into difficulty and plan a field trip to go to the natural habitat for my students to see real live plants and small animals.
